ABout the Bay Area

The San Francisco Bay Area is home to seven million people. It showcases global cultures, diverse communities, art, music, film, and some of the best culinary offerings in the country. The terrain is as diverse as the communities that make up this area of Northern California. Rocky ocean coasts, rolling hills, the Pacific Ocean and the San Francisco Bay define the area and the cities within it.

Vallejo is ideally situated at the juncture of the Carquinez Straits, and the San Pablo Bay. The City of Vallejo sports many noteworthy sites, and it is also the gateway to the entire Bay Area. San Francisco is only twenty minutes away, Berkeley and Oakland are nearby, and it’s just a short drive from the picturesque countryside of the Napa and Sonoma Valleys where people visit year round to experience a renowned selection of wineries.

The California Maritime Academy selected Morrow Cove in Vallejo as its new home in early 1941. Since then, the California Maritime Academy has enjoyed an ongoing partnership with Vallejo, the community, and this special region of Northern California.
