FAQS

Q: Who may enroll?

All Extended Learning courses are open to adults, at least 18 years old. No prior college education is required.  Students should have good oral and written English skills to successfully participate in any of the training courses.  Registration does NOT guarantee a seat in the class.  Space is reserved and students are considered enrolled only when the Extended Learning department receives the 20% deposit for any of the courses.   You may enroll in all of our courses by:

E-mail: xl@csum.edu

Mail the enrollment form to
The California Maritime Academy, Extended Learning

Q: Do I have to pay a deposit when I sign up for a class?

A deposit of 20% for all courses must be received no later than (2) two calendar weeks prior to class start date.  (This does not apply to companies with direct billing.)  Deposits can be made with personal check, money order, or credit card (we accept Visa, Mastercard and American Express) via phone or email. Checks and money orders should be made payable to CMA and sent to Extended Learning, 200 Maritime Academy Drive, Vallejo, CA 94590

Q: What are the course fees?

Course fees are noted in the schedule of classes next to each course.  All course fees and balances are due the first day of each class.  10% late registration fee will be added if not paid in full by (2) two calendar weeks prior to the beginning of class. Extended Learning cannot offer financial assistance for courses.

Q: What is your refund policy?

Course fees and deposits are refundable if cancellation notice is given (10) ten business days prior to start date and with an acknowledged confirmation via phone or email, less a $50.00 administrative fee.  Deposits will not be refunded if the student does not attend the class without proper notification.  The Extended Learning department reserves the right to cancel a class at their discretion and will issue a full refund if any class is cancelled.

Q: What are the course requirements?

1. All students are required to present photo identification at the beginning of each course.
2. Students should have good oral and written English skills to successfully participate in any of the courses.
3. Students must be clean-shaven (no beards) in order to participate in any of the firefighting courses.  No exceptions.
4.  Students need to bring a change of clothing on Wednesday of the STCW Basic Safety Training course, as proficiency testing will be done in the swimming pool.  Long pants, shirt, and shoes are required.  No shorts, sandals, or open-toed shoes.

Q: Where is CMA Extended Learning located?

We are located on Faculty Drive, which is the first right turn as you enter the gate to the campus of the California Maritime Academy.  Go all the way up the hill, past Bodnar Field, and you will see the building on your left.  Use the CME parking lot on the left, adjacent to our facility.

Q: Where can I park?

At the first class meeting, you will be given a temporary parking pass for access to the Academy. Place on the rearview mirror of your vehicle. Parking for Extended Learning students is permitted in the parking lot, adjacent to Extended Learning building. Without proper identification, your vehicle may be ticketed or towed.  Overflow parking is available in Lot G.

Q: Are meals available?

Students may use the Academy Dining Hall or Morrow Cove Cafe for meals. The Dining Hall serves meals during the academic year and often during the summer. It accepts cash and credit cards. The Morrow Cove Cafe is open during the academic year and offers breakfast and lunch items, light snacks, and refreshments. Cash and credit cards are accepted.
