WHO MAY ENROLL
All Extended Learning courses are open to adults, at least 18 years old. No prior college education is required. Students should have good oral and written English skills to successfully participate in any of the training courses.

Registration does NOT guarantee a seat in the class. The Extended Learning Department requires a 50% deposit on all courses. Space is reserved and students are considered enrolled only when the 50% deposit has been received.

HOW TO ENROLL
Advance enrollment is a requirement for all classes. After completing the Course Enrollment Form you may enroll by phone, email, mail, or in person.

DEPOSITS
A deposit of 50% for all courses must be received no later than (2) two calendar weeks prior to class start date. (This does not apply to companies with direct billing). Deposits can be made with personal check, money order, or credit card. We accept Visa, Mastercard and American Express via phone or email.

Checks and money orders should be made payable to CMA and sent to Extended Learning, 200 Maritime Academy Drive, Vallejo, CA 94590.

COURSE FEES
Course fees are noted in the schedule of classes next to each course. All course fees and balances are due prior to the first day of each class. We cannot offer any financial assistance for Extended Learning courses.

TRANSFERS
Transfers to another scheduled class (or from one student to another) are accepted at no charge up to 14 days prior to the class start date. Students are encouraged to transfer to a future scheduled class of the same course. If the student cannot transfer to a scheduled class of the same course, then he/she may transfer to another class of a different course and receive either a refund or pay the difference between the two class fees (if applicable). If the student cannot attend any scheduled class, then the Cancellation/Refund Policy is in effect. Due to the nature and size of our classes and our unique student population (out-of-state, challenging work schedules, etc.), transfers requested less than 14 days before the class start date significantly impact our course delivery and will be assessed a 15% transfer fee.

CANCELLATIONS / REFUNDS
Extended Learning will provide a full refund if a student cancels 15 or more calendar days before the start of the class.

Cancellations received between 14 and 7 calendar days before the start of the class will be charged a fee of 25% of the class tuition. Cancellations received less than one week prior to the start of the class will receive a 50% refund of class tuition. Cancellations received one day prior to or on the start of the class will receive no refund. Students who are registered yet fail to attend, as well as those who do not complete the program, will not be eligible for refunds.

This policy is to discourage late withdrawals and thus reduce the financial impact on our other students who are traveling from a distance to attend the class (e.g. lost hotel and travel reservation fees), our instructors and CMA when a course must consequently be cancelled at the last minute.

If CMA Extended Learning cancels a class, students will be offered:

  • A transfer to a scheduled class of the same course.
  • A transfer to another class of a different course (students will receive either a refund or pay the difference between the two class fees, if applicable).
  • A full refund.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS
All students are required to present photo identification at the beginning of each course.
Students should have good oral and written English skills to successfully participate in any of the courses.

Students must be clean-shaven (no beards) in order to participate in any of the firefighting courses.  No exceptions.

Students need to bring a change of clothing on Wednesday of the STCW Basic Safety Training course, as proficiency testing will be done in the swimming pool.  Long pants, shirt, and shoes are required.  No shorts, sandals, or open-toed shoes.
